Overwatch 2 Role Guide: Climbing as Support, Tank, or DPS
Overwatch 2’s five-versus-five format means every role carries more individual weight than it used to — climbing rank often comes down to understanding your role’s job in a fight, not just mechanical skill.
Support players: track cooldowns, not just health bars
Knowing when an enemy’s key ability is down is often more valuable than topping the healing chart. Calling out an enemy support’s cooldown to your team creates fight windows that raw healing numbers never will.
Tanks: create space, don’t just soak damage
A tank standing still and absorbing damage isn’t doing their job — good tank play forces the enemy to react, opening angles for your damage dealers. If your team isn’t winning fights, check whether your positioning is actually creating pressure.
With only one player per role, a single weak link can outweigh everything else on your team — a booster playing your account at your preferred role removes that variable while you climb.
